  1. I don’t think that people should be able to turn on auto-play and turn off playback controls. In an ideal world, this should combination of settings should be blocked. If we don’t want to do that, then there are two ways to improve:

    (1) add a warning that appears if Playback Controls is turned off that WCAG 2.2.2: Pause, Stop, Hide (A) requires that all media that auto plays can be paused or stopped and that turning off playback controls is an accessibility problem, with a link to https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understanding/pause-stop-hide.html

    (2) Change the front end output so that hiding playback controls removes everything except for the pause button.

  2. Testing with Testing with VoiceOver, Mac Monteray 12.5.1, Chrome 105.0.5195.102

Picture and picture video seems like it needs work/there might be some discussion required about this:

    (1) There’s no setting to allow site owners to remove this option from their videos.

    (2) When the picture in picture video opens via a keyboard trigger of the Picture in Picture button in the menu, focus is shifted back to the Show more media controls button. After reading the button, there is an announcement that Chrome has a new window.

The focus is not shifted to this video (which may be correct) however it is not readily apparent that the controls on the original video (play/pause) can be used to start and stop the picture in picture video also. Or that the picture in picture video can be closed by going into the more video options menu again.

    (3) The new picture in picture video can not be reached via a keyboard at all.

    (4) Captions and subtitles do not load in the picture in picture video they stay on the current video.

This is just available in Chrome – I’m not sure if we can do anything to fix this. Maybe it’s better to try to block Chrome from loading this.

  3. The video under the heading Video with Descriptions does not read out the audio description provided though the track element is present in the HTML.This appears to be created correctly based on the documentation at https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20-TECHS/H96.html, But I cannot get it to read out in Chrome, Firefox, or Safari (Mac VoiceOver).

Alex also cannot hear it (Windows, NVDA).
